Seeing the picture of the Beverly posted the other day, I remembered that I have lots of slides of Beverly’s, Comets and the odd Belfast from my Dad’s RAF days in the Indian Ocean in the 60’s
Can anyone reccommend a ready to go slide scanner that won’t break the bank? Bearing in mind that if it is used solely for slides I have, then it is going to have a fairly limited life, so I won’t be looking for a top notch scanner.
Thanks
Mark

Sorry for the late reply!
Sorry for being so slow to reply guys and thanks for the advice and especially the offer of help Robbo. A couple of weeks ago I was passing ‘The Computer Shop’ and saw the Epson 3200F on special for £58.00. Seems pretty much the same spec as DH fan pointed out, anyway I picked one up and it works well enough.
The slides are not that brilliant, and I can’t remember where most of them are, it was nearly 20 years ago that I last saw them. needless to say, I will ‘share’ them with you in the near future when i get them ‘cleaned’ up!

Try this:

Should find one for around 70 quid.
or

I supplied one of these to a customer and the chap’s well pleased with it.
This one has a similar resolution to a dedicated slide scanner.
Likely to be around £140 I would think.

What size? 35mm trans or other?
You can find flat scanners that have a film attachment to go with them, or have a search on Ebay or the Jessops second hand hotline (or whatever they call it) for something – it all depends on what you want and how much you want to spend.
When I was looking for a (new) neg/tran scanner there was one for £99.90 (Primefilm 1800U) which could scan both – but it didn’t have a lot of dpi options and was almost certainly slow: that is the trade-off with buying cheap. I got the Primefilm 3650 Pro (3600dpi) in the end – fitted my requirements.
If you aren’t going to put it to a lot of use then try and find a second hand one and shift it when you’ve finished, or see if there is someone who can do the job for you – which could be cheaper in the long run…
