3D artwork: Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe – part 3 – Junkers Ju EF 100

http://skyraider3d.military-meshes.com/gallery/JuEF100_1200.jpg

This is the third image I made for Monogram Aviation Publications for their book about German secret aircraft designs of WW2.

The first and second image can be found here:
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=38494
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=37082

The aircraft depicted is the Junkers Ju EF 100 transatlantic airliner. A rather peaceful subject, really, as it’s just a passenger plane.

It was designed around 1940 and windtunnel testing was undertaken, but it wasn’t built as the Junkers factory was needed for bomber production. Lufthansa wanted to build and operate this ambitious plane after the war for regular flights to America, but we all know how that ended, sixty years ago.

It’s an old image already, but I was unable to show it until recently. It was made in December 2003.

I hope you guys like it! 😎

Sorry for the late reply. I am using 3DSMAX. But the latest versions of C4D are pretty good too, I believe! 🙂

I have one of it over Mont Blanc somewhere, but I can´t find it now and the lighting was bad anyway. The colours actually looked OK, on screen when I did it , but I´m rather starting to think that that monitor had seen better days!! It was just a fun thing to do and I have to admit I wasn´t bothered about authenticity.

What software do you use anyhow? I have been thinking about doing some more of these to keep my hand in, but Cinema 4d is a bit limiting really.

Quite nice! You should do a nice render with it (and yes… change the colours to something slightly more authentic ;))

Small version of one of my own efforts, modelled and textured by myself.

No doubt I´ll get shot to bits for my somewhat fanciful paintjob! Hey, I was just a young green kid back then….

Thanks guys!

Good to see you here too, Evžen!

James, the backgrounds are shot with a 6 MP digital SLR from an airliner. I think this one was taken from a Malev Airbus, flying from Hungary to England 🙂
I always take a camera with me when flying somewhere.

Having done some 3d modelling – hats off to you Skyraider! Very nice work. Where do you get your cloudy backgrounds from?

Thanks a lot for your comments, guys! Very much appreciated 🙂

would have been interesting to see it flying

aj_march, I’m working on a little fly-by animation of it. Nothing too funky, but once it’s done I’ll put it here.

TexanTomcat, thanks! I need to redo the NA-57 though, as I recently saw some new photos of it and it turns out the whole belly was yellow!

Bob, check this out: http://www.luft46.com/junkers/juef100.html
It could well have been the Condor replacement. And a big one at that!

LOL Damien! 🙂

Next subjects: F4U Corsair and Fw 190 A-8 and a lot more Mustangs…

Great image – it almost looks like a genuine photograph. It may have been intended as a civil airliner but so was the Condor! Imagine a fully loaded squadron of these headed westward….

Can i just say that i spent a wonderful few minutes on your website – the German NA16 is now on my desktop and the fact that you teach others how to do it is well – brilliant –

I also have a copy of Doug Macphails SK16 book and now it all makes sense…small world innit

Good work fella!

Quite superb – I dunno how ya does it!

Is it computer based (I am a Luddite) or IRL artwork – it looks photorealistic so I cant tell!
