Finally, here is part 4 of this series… 😀
The following images were made almost a year ago for John Baxter’s latest book, The Alternate Luftwaffe, Volume II. More info about Joh Baxter’s books can be found here: http://www.luft46.com/jbbooks.html
The aircraft depicted is the Messerschmitt Me P 1091a Stufe III, which was a mid-war design for an extreme high altitude interceptor. It was effectively a stretched-up Bf 109, adapted for high altitude combat. The P 1091 never flew, but was further developed into the equally bizarre Blohm & Voss Bv 155.

One more “Secret Weapons Of The Luftwaffe” post will follow soon… Here are the previous three:

Nice job. Although, for the “vintage” shots, I woulda made the planes look more weatherworn.
There’s a Bv 155 at the NASM, right? Anybody got pics?

Absolutely outstanding work, Ronnie, and including the F-12 Rainbow is a touch of sheer genius. Damned strange looking job, that Messerschmitt… looks as though I’ll need to find a way to build one, though! 🙂
Keep up the superb work!

Thanks very much guys 🙂
TexanTomcat this topic had dropped a couple of pages so I decided to give it a shameless bump 😀
L9172, the aircraft is indeed an XF-12 Rainbow.
John, the Ta 152 is exactly the reason why this project was cancelled. You can find more about it here: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Village/4082/int_air/bv155-1.htm
Ollie, I think as a flying model it would handle pretty much like a powered glider 🙂 If you need scans of the scale drawings, let me know.

Me P1091A
Hi Skyraider,
An admirable work of art and something to be proud of. I am intrigued by the aircraft they are chasing and wonder if it is something you made up or is it a Republic Rainbow which, my rusty old memory suggests, looked very much like this aircraft.
Greatly admire your talent.

Easy Ronnie, some of us have only just seen it! 🙂 Superlative as ever!

Looks interesting. Something else to add to my list to design a flying model of.

Hi Skyraider
Well I am in awe of your work and I only just saw these – excellent and very interesting – I wouldn’t have thought it the most nimble of aircraft – a bit like a Ta152 in concept?
Regards

160 views and not a single reply. It may not be up to my usual standard, but it ain’t that bad is it? 😮
