Just heard on our local BBC station that today is the 40th anniversary of the first flight of the first British Concorde 002 on 9 April 1969.
My family remembers it well as we had just moved to a town down the coast from Bristol/Filton.

Family Pride
Not normally one to boast in public, but I’m so darned proud that I can’t help myself…

The electrical team supervisor featured in this wonderful piece, Alan Radford is my Grandfather 😀 My Grandmother June is also featured .
“Proud” is nowehere near a weighty enough word to express my feelings on seeing this at this historic time. Concorde has been around in my family for as long as I can remember, to the point that I guess I took for granted the family’s link. Despite tinged with sadness at the loss of what I consider to be our last great aviation engineering feat, this brought a smile to my face big enough to..well..fly Concorde into 😀
Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Not forgetting G-BOAB which is located at Heathrow (away from public gaze), which is the airframe possibly destined for Dubai.

Why? We’ve got six in preservation spread well throughout the UK.
Roger Smith.
Is there another one in the London area?
Two are prototypes, one is in Scotland and another in Manchester, where is the 6th? Bristol area I’m guessing?
Must admit it was good to see this historic anniversery on the BBC this morning, seems to have been overlooked a bit elsewhere.

I know we have six Concordes preserved.
How about this, with the amount of money in the middle east they could afford to get one back in the air and use it as VIP transport and not be given the aircraft to have as an attraction???

EN830 ………Now with the latest story of the Heathrow Concorde might end up in Dubai would be another sad blow……..
Why? We’ve got six in preservation spread well throughout the UK. Hadn’t heard the Dubai story but think it would be a good location.

EN830
A few weeks ago I had a stamp catologue come via the post, in there a company was going to bring out some stamps for the 40th anniversary of
Concorde 002 G-BSSTs first flight. I was at Yeovilton three weeks ago on the aircraft but at that time I did not pick up she was due for a birthday party.
It is good to see there are groups and companies giving us the oppertunity to visit Concordes and see what the experience of this Super Sonic Airliner.
Now with the latest story of the Heathrow Concorde might end up in Dubai would be another sad blow.
Long Live Concorde

I was on a school trip to BAC and Rolls Royce at Filton that day from Salisbury. We were lucky enough to witness the event from inside the wire.
