'558 some of the answers??

:dev2: All opinions expressed here are my own and nothing to do with VTSClub or VTST

I have just this week been to the VTSClub AGM in which we were treated to TWO presentations from Dr Robert Pleming and Andrew Edmondson, in which we told in very frank terms what the project had so far cost…. The figures were staggering

Expenditure to date

Purchase of Aircraft and all Spares £125,000(This value set by independent valuation)

Hangar Rental £278,000 = £400,000 to C Walton Ltd( for 18mths – Commercial Rate)

VOC costs £424,000
(Engineering costs to date)

Education £12,000
( Set up expenditure for program so far)

Non HLF costs
( Items pre-granting of HLF funds and
those items outside the scope of the
grant application e.g .fundraising etc) £334,000Recognise this figure, the original shortfall……Project set up costs???

Marshall Aerospace £1,029,000…… 60% of agreed contract costs
(Engineering , design etc.)

Total £2,200,000

Picked this bit up from some website

HLF funding is not paid in one lump but is applied for in arrears and paid against paid invoices for accepted activities at a rate of 70% the other 30% having to be raised as Matched funding. Items outside the original scope of the application are not HLF funded and have to 100% financed by funds raised.

By my guess there must still be in excess £1million in HLF pot, therefore it is cash flow from matched funding that is missing.

As somebody who has a little knowledge of overhaul and maintenance of large aircraft, you can rest assured and money raised will not have been squandered by the engineering staff. If previous track records of maintenance proceedures are followed the beuracratic – administative black hole will take most of the cash and they will then step back and ask why things are going over budget.

I personally wish to see 558 back in the air, I wish the engineering staff (Blokes on the tools not the planners and shiny’s) every succsess. So step back and let them get on with it.

If it is, no one has told Robert Phleming. He was still very enthusiastic about the roll out and first flight yesterday at the BAPC meeting at Wroughton.

Yes, I have.

Don’t read it as a rule but does make high quality toilet paper, apart from the ink of course.

Edited to add: I have read it today. I think it’s a real shame about Freddie Garrity. I saw Freddie and the Dreamers at the theatre when I was about 6 and they left a real impression. I still have a couple of their singles.

I think being toed out of the hanger for some plublicity is more the order of the day.

It’s going to be kicked and booted out of the hangar then. Or do you mean it’ll be towed out?

Keep an eye on the web cams

Why? They in danger of being sold off to raise funds!

As I’ve said before, I will publically eat my own head

While I hate to change the subject in this cerebral thread, that is really quite utterly unimagineable from the physical point of view 😀 . However if you are selling tickets to the event I will subscribe. 🙂

Watch out for happenings at brunty in August 2006, 558 will see sunlight again….

I think he meant that it would either be pushed out of the hangar, or the hangar doors opened. As I’ve said before, I will publically eat my own head if it flies in August 2006 😮

Dreamers, the whole lot of em. About as much chance of flying in August as Concorde is of doing air displays.

PS, I read in the Times today that a certain Tory MP wants Concorde as the new Royal Aeroplane…………

Jeez – I go away for a day and…. !

I think AE got the whole point of this thread a*** about tit, people were using this thread to ask questions about VTS – Dennis answered them as best he could, there was some banter about the project, DW was ‘blamed’ and this ‘blame’ was comprehensively discounted by a bevy of posts.

Kev, Damien, Phil and a few others put forward some serious points about transparency etc to try and explain our own doubts about the project, a right to reply is always welcome and was given – AE I assume that you didnt read the threads carefully and, goats and braincells notwithstanding, did not appreciate the thrust of the discussion proper.

As for VVVCSM or whatever the tag name he calls himself this week saying that the Waltons are defended by the Bruntingthorpe ‘crowd’ – You’re damn right matey – as previously posted they aint the bad guys but decent people – perhaps we’re all a bit old fashioned but we have this annoying habit of sticking up for friends, and those who have helped us out in the past.

Thats my final word on the matter!

Hmmm…..flight before the re-wire is complete???
And that has a on-task allocation of 15th May to 31st Oct…….. 😉

I’ve personally always been sceptical of the success of this project on a purely civilian basis, purely on the basis of the shear enormity of it…..but perhaps these most recent developments re-personnel for the project may mean there is the infrastructure commitment to see air under her wings again. I still have a question mark over her operating costs being viable, especially over her projected display life, but hey……I’m content to worry about that IF DT does get her to the end of the runway again for that first test flight….:)

I am curious to know how MK12 got hold of Peter Arnold’s postcard. I thought their wives didn’t speak to each other, or has there been some sort of reconcilliation ?

‘ I think that the VTTS people should remove their junk from Bruntingthorpe as it does not have the remotest chance of ever getting in the air.’

Well, it worked before.

Right…having read through the thread again from start to finish, I would like to make the following point. I believe Damien’s comment about rape was intended to give an example of someone trying to candy coat what they are saying and make it excuseable- For example – saying to someone “you are a really nice person but you make John Prescott look like Brad Pitt”.

On the subject of Vulcans and XH558 I don’t have a great deal of knowledge so silence from me on that subject is probably best.

On the subject of trading insults and making accusations, I would like to remind you all that such behaviour is not wanted here. It does the poster and the forums no favours.

As Moggy has decided to keep the thread open I will go along with that for now, but please keep to discussing Vulcans without the nastiness, thank you.
