I think Emirates are bound to be a success from just about any airport they choose to fly from.

As said above, the connections available from Dubai are quite amazing. Once in Dubai, the world really is your oyster with Emirates.

I expected this route to do well for 3 reasons:

1. Dubai is a popular destination in it’s own right.
2. Emirates reputation as a great airline.
3. Emirates hub offers good connections to Asia/Australia and passengers now have an alternative to using AMS/LHR to change flights. (I wonder if traffic on the GLA-AMS/LHR routes has changed much since Emirates arrived at GLA)
