Hi All,
As some of you may be aware, the team at the Jet Age Museum, Gloucester is respraying our Gloster Meteor F8, WH364.
Over the past few months we have been able to spray the silver on the majority of the fuselage/top surface, but thought has turned to the tail and specifically the tailplane colours. The aircraft is currently in and will be kept as the squadron commanders aircraft of 601 Squadron RAuxAF. The dilemma is whether to keep the tailplane in silver as she is, or to go with red/black stripes.
We are short of evidence to go either way. We have one photograph found on the internet of WT722, the original aircraft to wear the scheme, from a review at RAF Odiham but it is not clear on what to do.
So I throw the question over to the knowledge of the Key Forum. Would any of you have photographs that show WT722’s tail? Even memories if you are of an age that can remember the early/mid fifties. We are obviously aware of the Corgi Model of the camoflage 601 aircraft and that is swaying us towards the stripes, but we just need that final piece of evidence to concrete our decision.
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Dan

Although not much different to ‘Big Dan’s’ photos posted on the work in progress on Meteor F.8 WH364, a couple taken from within the public area at Gloucester/Staverton on Saturday 12th August, just as the day’s work was coming to an end.

Talked briefly with the two guys there, who were very appreciative of the answers that had been provided by members of this forum in response to ‘Big Dan’s’ questions. They feel they now have the information to be certain that they are doing a full and accurate job and thank all those who have helped out.
