604 Squadron 1939-1940

Dear All,

I was wondering if any members might be able to help me.

I am trying to find out more about John Henry Michael Rabone who served with 604 Squadron during the Battle of Britain flying Blenheim’s. He had served/trained with Oxford University Air Squadron before joining 604 Squadron in about 1937, and while with OUAS he flew with people like Sir Keith Park (who alos signed off his log book).

He seems to have been with 604 Squadron through until late 1940 with the exception of a spell at 11 (Fighter) Group Pool (St Athens) in September 1939, and 12 (Fighter) Group Pool (Ashton Down) in late September/October 1939. The log I have ends late January 1940, although the 604 Squadron history notes that he attacked an He111 on the 22nd May 1940. Men of the Battle of Britain notes that he left 604 Squadron in September 1940 to become an instructor.

I was keen to find out if any members had access to the 604 Squadron ORB and if they might be able to look him up for me. I would very much like to find out what else he was up to while with 604 Squadron, especially from January to September 1940. As mentioned, the squadron history notes him attacking an He11 in May, but other than that I know very little.

Any help at all would be great,

Johnnie
