I have a print of a 615 Sqd Hurricane with the serial R4194, I know this aircraft flew with 615 during the Battle of Britain based at Kenley, it was eventually struck off charge 22/12/41. Is there any way I can trace which pilots regulary flew the aircraft.
The unmarked print has the aircraft coded as KW-P.

Thanks Geoff,
That link was superb, I never realised those translating sites were so good. (Google)
The speed of this forum is just superb. I am now down to two pilots. Tony Eyre and Henry Lafont.
Eyre would later become a Wing Commander DSO, DFC and bars, he eventually became a POW.

In my experience, if you ask for just one copy of one Movement Card (Air Ministry Form 78) they don’t charge. don’t forget to give them your address as they don’t email them.
Being as it’s last unit was 9 FTS I would assume that it was either damaged in a flying or ground accident, declared too badly damaged for repair & SoC OR SoC due to wear & tear. Probably it would have been stripped of spares & scrapped. It doesn’t seem to have been used as a training airframe, with an ‘M’ number. If they could have found a use for it, they would have, so I would tend towards a flying accident, which damaged it too badly for it to be of any use, even on the ground.

Thanks Von Perthes/flood for the info.
Will Hendon require payment for this service.
If R4194 was not involved in an accident it would surely have been sent overseas or to further training units, they wouldn’t have sent it for scrap it at this stage in the war, would they!

‘The Hawker Hurricane’ (Mason) lists R4194 as joining 615 sqn at Kenley in August 1940, then to 9 FTS (no date), SoC 22-12-41.
There’s no mention of R4194 in ‘The Battle of Britain, then & now’ so it seems that it escaped significant damage.
Have you emailed Hendon for a copy of the Aircraft Movement Card for this a/c? This will give you units & dates. If the SoC was due to a flying accident, you can also get a copy of the Accident Record Card, which will give you details of the cause & pilot.
With the Movement Card details you can the look at the relevant sqn Operations Record Book at the PRO, Kew.

Air Britains RAF Aircraft P1000-R9999 has R4194 as with 615 Sqn then 9FTS. It was part of a batch (R4074-R4232) built by Gloster at Hucclecote and delivered in July and August 1940.
R4193 collided with a Do17 and crashed, Collier Street, Kent 15/8/40 whilst with 111 Sqn.
R4221 crash-landed after combat with Bf109 near Orpington, Kent, 18/8/40 whilst with 615 Sqn.
Seems reasonable to assume that R4194 served in the Battle…
