617 Sqn Dam Busters Request

Hi,

I am trying to find a photo of Sgt John Minchin who flew with the Dam Busters and was lost on the Dams Raid. He was flying in Flt Lt John Hopgoods A/c AJ-M ED925. He was the Wireless Op. Sgt Minchin was severly wounded on the run in to the Dam. Another member of the crew pushed him out of the burning a/c but it is believed his chute failed to deploy and he perished and his buried in Germany. He is a distant relation of mine and I am trying to piece together some family history. Hope some one can help. thanks

Snakeman,

Just had a quick run through my files, and I have found the attached photo of what is believed to be John Hopgoods crew, and F/Sgt Minchen is 2nd right of the photo. I know it is not terrific quality, but it’s the best I can find right now. I also have a photo of his headstone if you are interested, but it does not scan at all well, as it was taken with the sun shining on it and with the two-bob camera I had with me at the time, and things were a bit rushed that day it was not one of my better efforts. I am more than happy to get copies done should you so wish, just PM me to discuss further.

Hope this helps,
Best Regards
Keith

I will check my files and see what I have, although I believe he is one of those that I do not have a photo of in my collection. May take a couple of days as I am off to DX for two days this evening, so if anybody beats me to it, all to the good as you will have you info!

Best of luck with your search.
Regards
Keith
