65 Squadron Spitfire FZ-U

I have been sent a photo of the wreckage of a 65 Sqn Spitfire coded FZ-U. sorry photo not mine for posting but I will ask. The serial number is not visible but code is clear. This has to before Sqn changed codes on out break of war has anyone got a serial and date for an accident to a Spitfire that matches. It looks like it might have collided into a hangar or a building but of course it could have been moved into a such after accident elsewhere

Thanks Paul

DaveW on RAFCommands has identified the pilot of K7941 for this incident as F/O Gerald Alfred Wellesley ‘Sam’ Saunders #37482 (later DFC)

All thanks and sorry for confusion I have had permission to post images on here and will do when using a PC and not using my mobile the aircraft is definately a Gladiator and the image will show a building which could easily be a barn. The serial is painted on the door of the aircraft and is k7941. It is probable that the series of photos (3) were taken at same time. I will also ask for confirmation of another’s aircraft type of which only upper fairing and top wing visible methinks a Guantlet but would require more positive Id. I will endeavour to post images tomorrow Paul

@ paulmcmillan
what do you think of this:
“Pilot Officer Lee L.Pyman of No 65 Squadron was forced to land his aircraft at Manston on August 14th 1940.”
He flew a Spitfire K9915 – and (I know it is vague!) if you compare
K9906 FZ-L
K9907
K9908
K9909 FZ-O
K9910
K9911
K9912
K9913
K9914
K9915 FZ-U (maybe!)

K9741 was a Hawker Hector according to BMAS 1911-1971…

Ok obviously too egg nog at Xmas. a sober second look at picture shows that it is almost certainly Gladiator K9741 which hit a barn 10-10-1938
