I’m sure many of you will spare a minute today and remember, I’m off up to the town war memorial in a minute with a poppy.
Hats off to the BBC, they are showing a considerable amount of live coverage on the BBC News Channel, particularly from Arromanches, I gather that it’s going to continue all day, worth watching if you have a few minutes to spare.

From the logbook of a 91 Squadron Spitfire XIV pilot flying on D-Day. It seems an appropriate comment

Exactly what the BBMF is for, and hats off to them for displaying in such marginal conditions.

I noted that the flypast by the Lancaster and two Spitfires was exactly on time to the second ,part of the excellent tribute. I have watched several special programmes today and found it all very emotional.
My wish is that tolerance and diplomancy reduce the number of lives lost in future conflicts and that politicians continue to appreciate the real cost of errors made. The extra effort needed to avoid physical conflict is worthwhile. An appreciation of why good communication skills are as essential as a strong defence force is also needed.

It has to be said that the BBC coverage is excellent this year, our local news have had well thought out major features on D-Day stories all week.
No matter how many times you hear some of the stories, you can never get used to what people were prepared to sacrifice.

We had a nice ceremoney yesterday with thousands in attendance all wearing red to support our troops. For D-day, were told a WW1 veteran whos birthday it was could not attend todays ceremoney so the crowd was asked to wish him a happy birthday and wave etc and keep this going for a couple of minutes while video was taken which was then put onto a cd and would be taken and showed to him. There were many veterans in the crowd and on the podium and lots of thanks and applause. Everyone was invited to sign a D-day banner which was going to be sent to our soldiers in Afghanistan.
