Can anyone tell me about the recovery of this Spit, crashed at Howe Green Farm, Purleigh, Essex on 4/9/40
When was it dug, who by and how much was found ?

I believe this was the Blue Lamp Group as mentioned.
EAG aren’t at Coalhouse Fort. Thats a totally different group

There’s several enthusiasts who were active it that area, but I have always thought this particular site was excavated by the ‘Blue Lamp’ group.
It would be interesting to know either way.

Commonly Spitfires (of this period) were painted in two different camouflage schemes (A and B)of which even serialed aircraft were usually ‘A scheme’ and odd serialed were ‘B scheme’
This is not hard and fast as some Supermarine built aircraft were opposite, but the majority were.
Your Spitfire is in the ‘B scheme’ which sort of indicates an odd serial.
However, I may be talking tosh.

P9316, is given as shot down over Kent, if there was a dig at Howe green farm, Purleigh, it might have been the Essex aviation group they were based at Tilbury fort, one of the group (Colin) used to post on this forum; they list all their digs on their web page.
