I would like to know if anyone thinks that this particular type of aircraft is still accepted as a nice aircraft to fly on nowadays in terms of passengers opinion.
According to A.net, there were only approx 550 of these type of aircraft still operating, and bearing in mind that we obviously have 737NGs now, how long it will be before the older varient 737’s (i.e 200/300/400+ series) will join the aircraft graveyard for good?

Only did one summer season on them but remember them well. Very cold sitting on a box by 1R at 03:00 when the pax were asleep. The more senior CC having preference over the seat!
Coming back empty from MAN, lining up, brakes on, power up and then letting it go like a rocket cause ATC had already cleared you up to whatever level as the skies were quiet. The area around us certainly wasn’t with the noise we must have made. Colleagues trying to surf down the aisle on a tray when we did it!

I dont think there been banned its just the fact they are quite old and have allot of hours on there airframes.
Rumour has it there after some MD-80S to replace them.
Yeah I heard that aswel that they brought some MD-80’s from China?

Great aircraft. But very, very noisy when you’re standing in the tin can of an airport that is Carcassonne. It was like a 1 second earthquake as it rolled past with the reversers opened! 😀

Im not to sure but i think European aircharters 732s are going next year as they will have met there maximum air frame hours.

(As 1L says, it’s a small cramped )
Is not the same body section as the 733?
For sure it is.
It’s the same body cross section as the 707, 727 and 757
The best place to sit on a -200 is aft of the wing so you can watch the reverser buckets deploy.
I’ll be sad to see the -200’s go because it was the first type I got Licenced on. I still like the re-assuring “pop” that the JT-8’s gave when they lit up. The low booming rumble that all the big fans give is not quite the same!

Last flew in a 200 a few years ago from PIK to SNN with Ryanair, just before they left the fleet. As 1L says, it’s a small cramped and noisy aircraft, very much a product of it’s time… BUT I LOVED EVERY MINUTE !!!:D
Sitting near the back for takeoff was great, you can really appreciate the thrust as you’re forced into the back of your seat !

It’s quite a number of years since I worked on the -200, perhaps 9 years, but even then they were considered hopeless for handluggage space and VERY noisey aft of the wing. As for seat comfort and space, well I guess that depends what seats the airline has fitted.
The -300/-400/-500 were a considerable improvement over the -200 and I’m sure have many years of active service left in them yet.
