737s With Winglets

Am I the only person who thinks that 737s with winglets look absolutely dreadful?

As far as I understand it, the winglets make the most significant difference to the cruise performance. As a result the significant cost of upgrading existing aircraft tends to mainly be carried out by operators who fly longer sectors than others.

I personally think the 737 is a bit of a retro style ugly duckling whose looks are improved with a bit of boy racer winglet!

Boeing have recently just fitted the a 737-300 with winglets, the first of its kind, now in service with Air Plus Comet.

They look good on all other aircraft, and I suppose they would look good on the 737, had the winglets not been the size of Mount Etna!!
Although the pics that Monster took of the 737 did look good in Qantas colours.

This Hapag Lloyd 738 was all I could see when I stopped briefly at the spotting area at BSL on the way back from the shops this afternoon…

(sorry it’s so small, can’t quite work out the resizing lark… with any luck it’ll be bigger on airlinepics.com later though)

I read in ALW this month that they are going to be retro fitted to previous 737 models for those airlines choosing to do so.

I think they make the aircraft look a lot bigger than it is. I saw them on a Pegasus 737 last year and I was amazed at how good they looked.

They are a bit unnatural, but they also break up the “short and fat” look of the 737. Overall they make the whole shooting match a bit more photogenic I think.

I personally like them. They make the aircraft look more elegant and modern. Seen a couple recently and they’re a big improvement IMO.

i think that they look great. The photos that Monster sent of Qantas’ were very cool. Makes the aircraft look much more modern.

I don like them. Personally, I think they only look good on the A340 and A330, but I dont like either of those aircraft anyway!

I cant really comment as I have never seen a 737WL in the flesh. But in pictures they look OK i guess.
