747-8 Freighter First Flight

The Boeing Company is excited to announce the first flight of another new Boeing aircraft, the 747-8 Freighter. The first flight window for this new airplane is planned to open on February 8. This date is dependent on several factors, including final internal reviews, taxi test and receiving the final experimental ticket from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. The first flight of the 747-8 will take place from Paine Field in Everett, Washington, USA.

We’d like to invite you to be a part of this historic event by visiting any of our 747-8 First Flight websites:

Having just watched the video I hate to say it but the best bit for me was seeing the T-33 chase plane. Was one of the Skyfox variety or just a plain T-33?

An interesting piece….from the Avaition Week story on the first flight.

“Fuel burn improvements of as much as 15-17% over the 747-400 are expected from the new wing and General Electric GEnx-2B67 engines of the 747-8, and testing for cruise efficiency will be a critical element of the performance testing later in the program.”

Sounds pretty impressive.

Its not going to be much good as a freighter if it can’t fly in bad weather!

To paraphrase specsavers “Should have gone to Airbus” :diablo:

The flight is currently delayed for a half hour—– i’m sitting here waiting to see this fly, hell it’s just a 747!!! Nothing ground breaking. Unless I’m missing something?

Paul

It’s the biggest commercial plane Boeing has built? A first flight is always a worthwhile thing to see. How often does it happen? 😀
