Hi!!!!
Yesterday, at around 1320hrs I saw a white Boeing 747SP flying over London Embankment in the direction of LHR. I didn’t know that any 747SP’s were still in service!
Was this an Iranian Airlines example? I have been in London ten years and have only seen a 747SP fly over twice. I’d love to know how many are still in service and with whom? Surely it would make more sense for an airline to phase in a newer 747 with more capacity/range e.t.c?

Interestingly my latest ‘Aviation Letter’ tells me that the French aviation authorities have recently banned Iran Air 747-200’s from operating into Paris, but their SP’s are still permitted. Don’t know whether it’s an age thing or maintenance/ops related.

I saw IranAir 747sp on may 6th. I also belive that the Amiri Flight of UAE operate a 747sp which also visits LHR regularly

Iranair B747SP’s are fairly frequent visitors to LHR.
I photographed one last year. 🙂

Yeah it was an Iranair 747SP. I live on the other side of Heathrow and saw the jet depart back to Tehran later that afternoon 😉

Yeah, I thought that too. I saw one on the ground at LHR in 1998 when taxiing in an SQ 747 and was surprised to see one in service then!

Could well be Iran Air.

There are about seventeen SP’s in service or being repaired and several more are in store.
