A Japanese airline pilot who fell asleep twice while at the controls of a domestic flight has been suspended from his job.
The 50-year-old All Nippon Airlines pilot has been grounded pending an internal probe ordered by industry regulators, company spokesman Kunio Shibata said today.
Shibata said the 80 passengers on the flight from Tokyo to the south-western city of Ube were never in danger because the Boeing 767-300 was flying on autopilot at the time of the March 23 incident.
He called it “extremely regrettable” and said Japan’s second-largest airline was redoubling efforts to ensure safety.

2 man crew…what about the FO. The fact that this ever came up implies to me that the FO must have been asleep as well. If not he should have given the skip a nudge rather than dob him in!

Mosty likely a case of over worked pilots. Not enought rotation, not enough time off.
Lets hope this poor captain is not made a scap goat if this is the case
