I was just looking at the new scheduled timetable for Luton and was pleased to see El Al will still be using 767s on some of their flights, instead of just the 757s I’ve being seeing recently. More interestingly, it shows a couple of El Al flights at the beginning of April using 777s. I thought they’d be too big for Luton, but I also found a job advert on the internet for for a 777 engineer based at Luton so I guess it must be true. 🙂
Anyone have any inside knowledge?

And as if by magic, the 4X-ECF has just passed overhead on its way into Luton 😎

At the tail end of last year the daily LY213 was sometimes being flown by a 737. Bit of a rarity around these parts.

LTN’s handled 777s and 747s before. Don’t think it will be too much of a problem.
They have, but not for a very long time! And If the spotters I’ve spoken to are to be believed, the last visit of a 747 was a BA divert, and it had to sit on the South Apron (closest to the runway) because most of the taxiways were unable to support it.
LTN could concievably operate 777s, -200 or -300. If it cant fit in the standard gates, the South apron could easily take it. Its what silverjet used, after all.
Also MightyOz, just for future reference, the El Al flight which started last year was originally operated by 767s. I believe it is because they are retiring the 762s now that they send the 757s.

A 200 series, not too much of a problem, but a 300 would be on the tight side. Also, the turning circle isn’t really big enough for a 777, unless you had a marshaller help the turn. The 747 is less restrictive than the T7. Seen BA T7’s in LTN.
