Not battery problems …….
If the reports are accurate in details then it’s pathetic if planned corrective action is being done in a ‘slipshod’ way –
The report in the Daily Telegraph http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/travel/travel-news/jal-resumes-dreamliner-fleet-only-to-discover-new-problem/story-fni0bien-1226655675403 states
“……JAL said the pressure sensor of the battery container in the plane showed a difference in air pressure between inside and outside during a safety check before departure, according to the media reports.
The airline added that there was no abnormality found in the battery itself, the reports said.
The difference in air pressure was put down to Boeing Co.’s faulty maintenance as two small holes on the container – necessary for air ventilation to prevent overheating – were mistakenly sealed when it repaired the battery system, Kyodo said citing JAL…..”

It probably does, but I’m still glad to see the B787 in the air again.

You’ve gotta love the Boeing engineer proudly showing off his stainless steel casing for the 787 battery in this video. Excuse me, but does all that extra casing not now cancel out the weight savings the lithium-ion batteries were meant to deliver? D’oh! :stupid:

[I wonder what the next thing – that was rushed to meet ‘project deadlines’ – will be to fail… and where… will it be on B787, A350 or CSeries.]
I have to admit, right now I’m pretty downbeat about the shambolic way ar$ehole$ with Gantt charts (aka project managers) and clueless clowns with calculators (aka procurement) are running things into the ground for all the large OEMs. The latter insists work goes to the cheapest bidder (regardless of whether they actually know what they are doing or not) and the former insists that everything has to be geared to meet interim schedule “deadlines” – even if running it that way really means the final deadline moves further away and the end-product quality suffers. Sooner or later someone will realise it, put experienced and competent engineers in charge of the whole lot, relegate procurement and project management to the administrative functionaries they really are and clean up the market. ‘Cos right now the tail is wagging the dog…

In that post I gave Toyota as one example of other giant MNEs who suffered major third party supplier quality issues during an economic recession.
It’s hitting the Japanese car industry yet again including Toyota and others (Airbags disintegrating)
This is the longest economic recession in my lifetime and it is a bad one and IMO there will be many more problems in quality all over the world not just affecting the 787 or Boeing and I remain ever optimistic that ‘those in the know’ are fully as I am aware of this and the impact it has on product innovation.
Hence being safer than sorry is the best motto forward with the 787 and there will be a great future for it once all the major problems manifest and are dealt with.

I was ready a piece about this on a Boeing site last night.
Looks good, awaiting the FAA and ready to meet anything else they may ask but very hopeful all will be acceptable as is to get the project back up and running fully.
Another flight was recently made to confirm everything was a s expected.
