Hi Daz – look more like the Korean War stripes which would fit the period in question. Much too early, and incorrect aircraft, for the Suez stripes !! 🙂
Cheers – Allan

Dazdaman Why would air craft want stripes? they were only put on for identification purposes on D day, no one told the aa gunners on the ships though. Some squadrons kept them on for a while some didnt. Any way on most aircraft it was only distemper.
Most photos of in-service Mk24s I’ve seen have them like this:

(This isn’t one of my models – my version has the correct-coloured nose! )
…so it’s unusual (to me, at least) to see them without 😉
Seeing your motorised model reminds me of a 1/72 scale RADIO-CONTROLLED Corsair I saw a while back! 😮

Model spit.
Another one for Dazdaman. This is the airfix model measured up from the spit at Hendon museum, I made it and fitted an electric motor in it for photography purposes, it was not a success, vibration was the main problem but at least I had fun.Incidently my friend George Bidwell was the mechanic on this aircraft W2 N.

OK you bods, First I was not a pilot. I was a flight mechanic at that period (1948 49) The spit running was at Lubeck on air to ground firing exercise, note the ammo boxes, Terry, my rigger is on the tail of the same kite. B is seen being unloaded at Kai Tak where we went in July 49 on the Royal navy carrier HMS Ocean. These following ones are all taken there ,except the one of me which was taken at Gutersloh.the one with the broken prop is a 28 sqdn mark 22, the erk running it up got the tail up but to compound the error he chopped the throttle and she dropped quick and broke her back.
Hi grounded, my late father was at Lubeck between 1946 and 1948. Mainly causing trouble in the cook house.

I’ve just noticed none of the Spits have black and white stripes around the wings and fuselage – never seen them without before!!
Incidentally, here’s a good look over the old Matchbox Spitfire 24 kit:

Must crack on with mine at some point…!!

Just checking this, when you’ve selected the pictures, and hit upload on the “Manage Attachments” box, you are waiting till the photos upload into the “Manage Attchments” box before hitting submit on the main thread post?
They will load up into the “Manage Attachments” box and you’ll see the file names come up in that box at the bottom. Then hit upload on the post.
