Sounds like it will be turning out to be a good show. I expect pictures! Don’t think I can manage that hop across the pond.

Abbott SPG not aviation related? Sure it is…they call them targets!!!:D

Hi Aeronut
the Abbott is a privately owned “civilian” machine so there should be no problems. It is intended to operate her on the rough-terrain area to the south of the old ATC-tower so there should not be much of a FOD issue.
You’ll have to try and make yourself known to us on the day

I do hope the Abbott will be driven responsibly. As one of the weekend flyers at Abingdon I’m fed up of sweeping all the cra… sorry, FOD off the runways and taxiways. And as for the Army ripping up the grass and disolving the tramac with spilt fuel… Aghhh.

Its a darn good show though and yes I intend to be there.

These are valid points but with many of the smaller shows, Abbo included, they do have to struggle to get the punters through the gate and cover the ever increasing (often ludicrously) costs and in Abbo’s case raise some monies for a worthy cause.

Before days of t’internet I seem to recall lists of expected acts appearing int the aviation press so pre-event listing is nothing new.
Just quicker

Cheers AW…took the words straight away from me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As Gary says, the smaller shows(ours included) need to do whatever we can to attract the paying public(..& remember that’s not just the enthusiast).
Even-so,there may still be a surprise or two that might not be announced in advance.

Again,as Gary says,pre-event listings are nothing new…most of the aviation press carried these lists in the pre-internet days and there was always the local rumour mill.
Many events had premium rate telephone hot-lines with these lists…at least doing it this way,we are keeping your phone-bill costs down.
cheers

Personally, I prefer to be ‘surprised’ to a certain extent when I go to an airshow!

Of course you have to give away some information to get the interest going, but it’s just like the days pre-WWW when you turned up to a show hoping to see something rather then expecting to see it.

sadly we got a handful of people who treated this is a some sort of personal slight and sent remarks along the lines of “If you don’t publish exactly what is going to take part, you don’t get my money because I won’t turn up” (only rather less politely). Needless to say we did without their entrance fee.

Ah Yes, remember this well, I even got email’s coming through the Societies server about this, as you say some were a lot less than polite, and that’s to put it mildly!!

Why do organisers have to tell you what to expect at shows????

Surely it is much more fun to arrive in a state of anticipation and be thouroughly surprised at what you see????

Prior to the internet we never knew what was going to appear at shows until you got there, always hoping that you would see that something special but also knowing that you would see some established acts.

Do any of you think that shows have lost some of their spark because of this? Or do you think that it’s better to know what your getting for your dosh????

Can now add US Army UH-60A Blackhawk and Royal Navy Merlin on static, with Pembroke and Jet Provost T3 in the flying display.

A major non-aviation feature will be the opportunity to have a ride in a 1960s Abbott self-propelled gun vehicle
