8th Air Force

I would like to take some American visitors to “Pubs” with a historical link to the 8th Air force – Particularly the 2nd and 3rd Air Divisions.

Could anybody please advise – a little historical background would also be useful

Many thanks

The Swan at Lavenham. Lots of crew signatures (Then and returning as veterans) preserved on the wall.

Try: –

The Chequers at Fowlmere – 1 or 2 photos & letters from 339th FG (also excellent food)

http://www.thechequersfowlmere.co.uk

The Woodman Inn at Nuthmapstead – 398th BG memorial & some 398th BG & 55th FG photos

http://www.thewoodman-inn.co.uk

The Crown Pub – Little Walden – very limited 361st FG Memorabilia

The Hole in the Wall, Little Wilbraham – Good food, no photos/Memorabilia but good base to explore Bottisham airfield – original home of the 361st Fg

Enjoy!

The Flying Fortress at Rougham, better still the Eagle in Cambridge. 🙂

The Swan at Coney Weston was the home of the 388th and has some limited pictures displayed.

I think Horham is well provided too.

Podgysteve.

Can you give us some indication of where you live so we have an area to work with?

Brian.

“The Eagle” in Cambridge, better still, “The Flying Fortress” at Rougham, Bury St.Edmunds.
