Can anybody help in identifying a book that i read a few years ago but have misplaced the title and author and now can’t seem to find online by subject search – I have a suspicion the title was obscure hence doing typical title searches has been fruitless
The book was published professionally within last 5 years or so and was a wartime memoir and contained considerable amounts of graphic wartime photography of various 8th airforce crash sites mainly in east anglia. The photographer was employed to do this specifically by the airforce, if I remember correct his name sounded italian american although I’m not sure whether he was actually british – I think the book was pulished by one of his descendants. Again if I remember correctly the photos had never prior been published. Each crash had a write up. Front cover had some piccies of the crash sites and a camera if I rember correctly?
Was a superb book and I need to add to my collection before I lost where I wrote it down – doh!
Thanks

Hi again,
IIRC there was also a follow-up book, “Eighth Air Force Bomber Stories: A New Selection”, and also a fighter edition – “USAAF Fighter Stories” and also a follow-up to it “USAAF Fighter Stories: A New Selection” too; all by Ian McLachlan.
Haven’t read any of these three.
All the best,
M

Hello, I think you might be looking for (as Sky Dancer said) “Eighth Air Force Bomber Stories” by Ian McLachlan and Russell J Zorn; Zorn being the photographer – Patrick Stevens Ltd 1991 and reprinted 1992. Very sobering.

Hi there,
Would it happen to be “Eighth Air Force Bomber Stories” by Ian McLachlan???
Not Italian/American name, but the content sounds familiar. I found it very poignant.
Hope that helps,
M
