911 Silence

I propose that on this board (and the others i suppose) we have no posting Between 1300 GMT and 1800 GMT on 11th September (Wednesday)as a one minute silence doesnt really have an effect on a board with more than a minute between posts.

I think it would be fitting to honour America in this way. Do you agree but?

RE: 911 Silence

So two of you seem to like my idea? So Webmaster would an anchor post be OK for the day, or over the weekend??? 🙂

Cheers 🙂

RE: Remebering in our own way

Andrewm,

I don’t necessarily think five hours of silence from us is an appropriate way to recognise the anniversary. The feeling in America seems to be a desire to get on with life, to continue their everyday lives and in doing so show the perpetrators of the attack that they have not been beaten. I also think that 9/11 affected many people throughout the world on many different levels, and it may be that they need/desire to be able to talk about the events of a year ago and forums like this might just fill that need. If you wish to maintain a silence on the anniversary then please go ahead. We will all deal with this in our own way and people will obviously respect your decision.

It’s going to be a strange day for my family as September 11th will be my father’s 75th Birthday, it is also the date I first started work back in 1978 and it is a friends wedding anniversary.

A330,

I think that is a brilliant idea of yours and I hope the webmaster takes it up. Perhaps the topic could stay there till the weekend? Each of us will have our own thoughts on the day and having somewhere to post like that could be beneficial to all, not least of all the American members of the forum for whom I am sure it will be a particularly emotion filled day.

Regards,

kev35

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-09-02 AT 09:41 PM (GMT)]Andrew, if you want to do something to remember what day it is and what it represents, hows about asking the webmaster if you can have an anchor post for a day? Where if the forum members want to they can post tributes etc, there?

Just an idea, if you really feel that you should do something.

How do all the rest of you feel about this idea??? 🙂

RE: 911 Silence

PErsonally I feel that we should go on as though nothing had happened! The people who perpertrated these Heanous Crimes against humanity, wanted to disrupt life in everyway, GWB said it the first week after it happened “We must go on as if nothing happened, otherwise it shows them that they have won, if not actually, morally and ethically, we in the free world must stand tall and say we will go on”!

As a tribute I light candels in memory! That is how I respect thos who fell fighting for freedom through the ages and throughout the world.

It’s a nice gesture that you have proposed here, but I respect the wise of the leader in his request that we go on!

Give me coffee and no-one gets hurt!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 07-09-02 AT 08:05 AM (GMT)]No,i’m not stopping posting.I think if we continue as normal at a more toned down level and remember the victims through the posts that will be going around, then I don’t really see any point in stopping posting.Any how,I don’t think many other forums will be doing that.
I would say take away anything humorous from signatures or avatar image,as a reminder of the occasion.
If others want to go ahead with it,then ok I will do the same.
