A-17

I mentioned this before during another discussion. The US are probably building a new strike a/c for their Air Force, which is called the A-17. It is still a black project, but I heard it will be a dedicated strike a/c much like the F-111 once was. Same size, same payload, but not much of an air-to-air capability probably. There are several contenders, a strike version of the YF-23 (called FB-23), a larger version of the F-117 called Flying Artichoke and something called Switchblade with forward sweeping swing wings.
I think it’s a good idea to build a new dedicated strike a/c, although the trend today is multi-role a/c like the F-15E (one could imagine a strike version of the F-22). I also believe they made a mistake to cancel the A-12 project. What do you prefer: dedicated striker or multi-role jet?????

Ference.

P.S. It would make a nice mix: F-22, JSF and A-17.
