A-2 Nose Art Jackets

Also enjoy seeing those at Duxford who wear their A-2 of B-3 flying jackets , hand painted with Nose art on the back. Can any one recommend any webiste in the UK, or any other place that carries photo’s of jackets and nose art on them. Also any photos you ladies or gents have in your collection and could post here. I have been collecting nose art photos from many Eighth and Ninth veterans here in the states and generally run into several at Duxford wearing real ones from WWII. The 401st , triangle S group has some excellent nose art on its aircraft and jackets! If you look in the American Musuem bulding at Duxford you will see the original A-2 Jacket of Dan Knight, the pilot of the “Mary Alice” , I meet him years ago and had a jacket painted up like his. It has Bugs Bunny carring a bomb on its back. He was a pliot with the 401st, great photo of him in Rogers Freeman’s book , ‘B-17 Flying Fortress at War” he is standing at the tail section of his damaged fort.

Nice looking Jackets!!!!

Jasonp51D and Black Knight, thanks for posting those great looking A-2 Jackets. Most impressive indeed, I remember seeing some great originals in the small museum of the 100th BG. in the UK. That one thing I most enjoy about coming to Duxford , folks put on their A-2’s and its nice to see this
tradition continue where it all got started. Would love to have an Eastman A-2, but they seem to make only small sizes. From seeing many originals from veterans of the Eighth, size 44 was considered xlarge. Herein the states , they have some excellent originals at the new Eighth Museum in Savannah, Georgia, the Air Force Museum at Dayton, Ohio. Also the 390th museum in Arizona has a nice collection on dispaly. My all time favorite is from the crew of a 401st B-17 called Diabolical Angel . Back in the early 90’s I located every member of the crew and the two waist gunners who had this great looking
“Angel” on the back of their A-2 jackets. If you have any books on Nose art, this jacket is always featured. One of the gunners told me he gave another GI, 5 bucks to do this classic artwork. Sadly neither man still has his original.
Thanks again men for posting those great looking A-2 jackets!

A2’s at Duxford

You might see this one around at Duxford as I live just across the road.

It is a copy of Capt. Walter J Kozicki.’s A2 of the 376th Fighter Squadron, 361st Fighter Group see http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/361stfg-gallery.jsp for the original.

Best Regards

Jason
