One of the “might have been”‘s and judging from the state of naval aviation, a “should have been”. The A-6F was an upgraded version of the venerable and combat-proven A-6E, with newer engines, better avionics, etc. More range/payload capability than the F-18C, and, I believe, the F-18E/F. Too bad they can’t resurrect that program and put a heavy hitter back on carrier decks. Anyone else familiar with this aircraft?
