A-7 Corsair II in 2010

In continuing my series of threads about aircraft and their status in 2010, I come to one of my favorites…the LTV A-7 Corsair II.

From what I know, there is only one squadron in the world still flying the type, and that is the 336th Bomber Squadron of Greece’s Hellenic Air Force based at Araxos AB. I figure they are soon to be replaced by new F-16C/D Block 52+ aircraft, but does anyone have any specific information on when this will take place if it hasn’t already?

It’s not the prettiest airplane out there, but I simply love the A-7. It’s the epitome of a hard-working, under appreciated aircraft in my opinion. It has seen much combat over the years and although it only served with a few operators, all of them used it for quite some time in an era of more flashy supersonic types.

To this day it is quite a performer (in my opinion) for the missions it was designed to perform with a large payload, very impressive range, and almost unrivalled bombing accuracy using unguided weapons (although guided weapons have certainly been used on it over the years).

If anyone has any recent photos of HAF A-7’s please share them or better yet any photos you happen to be fond of. Stories and information are also welcome.

Does anyone know if any A-7’s will be restored to airworthy condition and flown in the civilian world?
