From an era I’d have loved to have been involved in…
I’d like to take the opportunity to give a 2 fingered salute to low cost airlines and say this is how it should be done!

The first aircraft i remember seeing was one of these taking off from Manchester runway 24 (now 24R)

Oh, that was a time of nice liveries.
Some airline should really switch back to their 60ies or 70ies colors.

do hushkits make the Md80 from Stage 2 to stage 3, or from stage 3 to stage 4?

Great retro stuff again Steve, I’ll dig out some more classic GLA stuff by Ian Oswald later. Right now I have to go and shoot the Celtic game. 😮

Thanks Allen, is that a Freddie Laker skytrain in the fourth photo???
Indeed it is, sitting outside the big maintenance hangar at GLA on a typical gloomy day.

cool. i always think older liveries can be better
By: Ren Frew - 15th May 2004 at 12:20
I recall being aware of Braniff in the early 80’s but never saw one for real.
These are some of the liveries and types I recall from that time as seen at Glasgow Airport in the late 70’s and early 80’s… 😀

Ironically, I have no recolection of Braniff as a younster. I remember various images in my mind of planes I used to see at LAX in the 80’s. Lot’s of TWA, Pan Am, Air Cal, PSA, Western, Eastern, of course American and United, even Hughes Airwest’s banana birds, but no Braniff.

Speaking of Australian carriers; one slogan that is permanently etched in my mind is TAA – The Nation’s Jetline. Too bad airlines stopped such practises, it’s a bit boring with just the airline name sometimes…
