This is a personal view of the events of yesterday evening…
The HAC Hurricane had engine problems after departing White Waltham while Dad was flying it. He landed back on and thankfully both he and the aircraft are safely on the ground. Less than 10 minutes after he landed, this incident was reported on this forum. Both myself and Mum were at Chailey getting ready to depart while all of this was unfolding. As we were about to fly home, we both had our phones turned off. News of the incident started spreading via this forum before either of us knew about it. We found out a bit later when Dad phoned someone else to get a message to us. My brother still didn’t know about it at this point, but he could have easily looked on this forum and found out, which I know is not the best way of finding something like this out.
There was a huge uproar last year when footage of the Firefly was let into the public domain before the family had been notified. I know that in this case, both pilot and aircraft are ok, but in future can the users of this forum think about the people involved and their families before posting straight away. Hold back for a while to ensure that news gets to the people that it needs to get to.
I know that this forum is a strong source of information, but sometimes that information travels faster than it really should.

Glenn.
I made that first posting.
If you check back you will see that, for the very reasons you describe, it was headlined
“HAC Hurri down. OK”
My reasoning was that it was inevitably going to be posted here and I wanted to make certain that the minimum angst was caused under precisely the conditions you outline in your post.
If you feel that was wrong of me I’ll bow to your opinion. My own feeling, after reading your point of view, has not changed.
Nice work by your Dad, none the less. 🙂
Moggy
The news had already broken elsewhere under a far less comforting headline

I am glad everything turned out ok and your Dad was unhurt thats the most inportant thing.
The modern world and this forum means news travels fast,Sometimes too fast.
This forum is much better at sensitivity and accurate information than most forums i have seen and i hope we keep up that standard and not cause any distress to anyone involved in the Airshow scene.

I agree, but my thoughts are – if it wasn’t here, it would be somewhere else. 🙁
Most people show a degree of sensitivity when accidents occur, on here at least – although I haven’t read what was said.

Hi Glenn
I agree.
I was talking with Janis and Guy just after the show when I heard about it. Sure glad your papa is safe.
best regards
