Popped over to Cosford yesterday. They certainly have broken ground. One hole seems just about big enough to bury the Vulcan….. an alternative to suspension perhaps? There is a tall metal structure in place and the whole of the top part of the Museum has several huge earth berms creating an interesting backdrop for the Neptune amongst others. Hangar 1 was closed for an event so didn’t get down there. So, what is now residing where?
The Argosy is still by the butts. The Brittania is on the grass on the right of the visitors centre. I didn’t happen to notice the Andover. At the rear of the Visitor’s Centre is the Trident, Neptune and civilian Jetstream while round the back by the Restoration Centre was the Canberra, Hunter T7? and the Blue Steel bomb. The Victor is now at the back of the top hangars with the Vulcan nestled into the corner. I didn’t see the Varsity.
Here’s the wide shots of the work in progress.
Museum seems to be functioning fine and there were plenty of visitors there. I’ll make regular visits to keep abreast of progress. I would say to anyone thinking of going, don’t let the work put you off. It seems like there will be regular changes as aircraft take their turn for a wash and brush up.

Good point – never thought of that.
Gonna be one large dust-sheet to cover the Victor and Vulcan when they start building on that side !!
Local lad – 20 minutes from Cosford (well down the country lanes it is anyway!) – just outside Dudley.

TMN.
I recognise that avatar. Which part of the West Midlands are you from?
Perhaps moving the aircraft so far out of the way protects them from the builders dust a little because if we ever have a dry spell it will be horrendous.

Kev,
the Andover and Varsity are tucked well away beyond the hangers on the ‘live’ part of the base. If you are in the top hanger and look out of the fire exit window, beyond the Victor, you can just about see the tails alongside each other.
Can’t understand why they have been put so far away when the Argosy is still (sort of) on show.

Inside the top hangar, the Komet is now nestled beneath the starboard wing of the Lincoln. Minus wings, which are on trolleys alongside, the Komet has clearly had a repaint and looks stunning. Just appears to be waiting for its glazing now. Didn’t notice any more major changes.
Photographs are poor but show the Komet head on, the Comet and the Viscount appearing to be sniffing the blossom as it prepares itself for yet another year of braving the elements.
The sign on the SB5 which I have seen numerous times previously struck a chord with me. It’s such a pity that this measure was not taken with any number of airframes at the end of 1945, and indeed since.
