It’s May and still wandering around Duxford with gloves on. Hope Global Warming kicks in for the weekend after next. The HAC Nimrod is almost complete, the Blenheim has a few extra panels on the engine mount and Pete Kynsey took the TFC Harvard up for a bit of a spin in the afternoon. No, I don’t know when the rest of the fleet will be operational. It will happen when it happens.

Have they confirmed how they are gonna paint it?
With Devilbiss , paint , masking tape and paper.:D
We have comprehensive factory drawings for all p-47 markings and stencils.
We also have been building up a large collection of period photos from those involved with the thunderbolt past and present all over the world to insure all is correct.
Be a while before we paint it yet.

News on the scheme may be released nearer the time, if we don’t, you’ll just have to wait until it gets rolled out the sprayshop:D

I guess it’s the satisfaction of overcoming the frustrating problems that makes it so satisfying.

Yes it would be great to hear from anyone involved in the rebuild of a rare machine.
Not all it’s cracked up to be, downright frustrating at times….
wouldn’t change a thing 🙂

Excellent shots, as ever Brian : a real feast for the eyes to see the progress being made on these aircraft, especially for those of us so far away that we cannot visit as often as we would like, or once did, in my case. Just a thought, without hi-jacking this thread, and referring to the ongoing work on the P47, for example, would it be fair to suggest that the standard of work that goes into rebuilding, (where necessary), these old aircraft , is even better than that of the original assembly? It seems to me that the time and care thus expended exceeds the construction standards (with the necessary wartime haste and restrictions that were then force) of the originals. Fair comment? Perhaps those more intimately involved would care to give their thoughts ? Regards, Brian S.:)

If you’ve not seen it yet Air Show List
Brian
Thanks – no, I had not checked the website for a while. It looks very mouth-watering, so lets hope the skies are clear and the rain stays away.
Although I have been to the Museum I have not attended an airshow for years and years so would I be right in thinking it is not a vey good day for a 75 year old with poor mobility, despite her enthusiasm to be involved in the BoB events?

Thanks to Brian and EH for the answers to my question. I did’nt realise she had been away for so long.

Brian, i may have missed it somewhere but why did the Nimrod come back dismantled on a trailer?
From the HAC web site:
Nimrod II Update
The Nimrod, as will be known, had an engine problem at the Yeovill (check spelling) display last year. The problems proved more extensive than we first thought, and so the aircraft was brought back to our facility in Sussex, the engine removed and stripped down. The necessary engineering work has now been completed in our own engine rebuild facility at Retrotec and it should be back in the aircraft in February after bench testing. The opportunity was also taken to do a major service on the aircraft down here.
