Found this website by mistake tonight and I am absolutely outraged by the level of ignorance shown to the airminded community . If you click on the parachute aircraft crash you will find not one word of sympathy for the people
who died near Honiton recently.
Regards the obituary – surely his family should be allowed the chance to reply !
What I find fascinating is that the people who write these sites never
outline what is actually left in Kent in terms of airfields -a far cry from wartime levels nor do they acknowledge the relief flights that operate out of Manston or the fact that their fresh fruit on their table has probably arrived from Egypt in a DC-8 freighter.

The council are very good aviation wise, they fund the airshow, support any event aviation or historical and I have had the past three mayors flown at the VGS to launch the local wings appeal. The last mayor lives in the flight path and says he enjoys lying in the garden in the summer watching the take offs and landings.

He certainly isn’t talking about those great friends of aviation – South Cambridgeshire – who wasted an absolute fortune of their taxpayers funds in an attempt to persecute Little Gransden.

This reminds me of some people who complained to my local council that light aircraft from the local airfield were causing them annoyance on take offs and landings, the reply they got boiled down to, the airfield has been there from the 30s your house was built in the 80s,your choice to live there ,tough.
Strange, the words “council” and “common-sense” don’t usually go together. I’m impressed.

Flying in kent,
i’ll do you a house swap if the noise bothers you that much,in a secluded area of Suffolk, peace and tranquility guaranteed…..just the odd KC135 or ten on a daily basis, six C-17 Globemaster III’s yesterday/today,couple of Galaxys, the odd Herc and one or two Buzz Bombers(C-21’s and the likes),oh yes and the NASA Canberra not long back, now that was good, you could hardly hear it…………coming anyway.
Anyway,if you fancy it then come to Mildenhall, not sure if i’m keen on spamcans though.

It’s the sheer speed of the cut and thrust debate here that impresses me.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…. oh sorry, must have dozed off for a while there…. :diablo:
Is this debate still running then?….. 😮
😀 😀 😀

I agree. Remember an angry mind is not a clear mind.
Sadly we live in a world full of NIMBYs (look at Stansted) and it certainly looks as though we have one here. .
Err be very careful when using Stansted as an example. I live in the area and the BAA’s plans where/are grotesque to say the least. They took no account of transport, the current shortage of water in the area, new homes, schools and hospitals. I oppose the expansion because of a lack of these services first and foremost. Join up the thinking and I’m sure progress can be made here. In many ways expansion in Stansted will be good, but not without many other improvements. Its in the interests of the whole country that Stansted is done properly.
Rant over

Interesting that these two flying fanatics have not had the ‘balls’ to respond to our reply, dated 9th September 2004. Could it be that they have no reply?
Editor, Flying in Kent.
DB and Mr C,
I’m surprised you have bothered to respond to this individual. From the tone of his message he is a sad little idiot who is just trying to get a rise out of you probably because his website is of no interest to anyone except equally sad NIMBY’s and his life revolves around sitting in front of his computer screen desperately trying to get someone to give him some attention. As Moggy says, best thing is to ignore him.
EDIT by Moggy. Let’s remain polite to our guests however undeserving of that treatment they may be please.

Dear Flying In Kent – Thanks for the reminder that it has taken me more than a year to reply for you . I had imagined that maybe you had gone to protest about some other ‘hot topic’ that was troubling your life. Alas no! Your website contains the same ‘cut and paste’ information which is incorrect – easy to post but just as easy to post the right information. In a reasoned debate sometimes people find a middle ground where a consensus can be reached. However your site still dwells on other peoples misery – pilots that die have family and friends -I guess you wish to tar their relatives with the connection?
As a technical point your site in a banner proclaims that light aircraft and helicopters produce greenhouse gases. Please tell me how you travel ? – by train that
rely on oil and gass burning power stations ? – by car that burns fossil fuel? – have you ever been on holiday in an airliner ? – yep you guessed it -fossil fuel again!
Please tell me that you do all your campaigning on a bicycle with your soapbox tied to the back? If not and you indulge in harmful emissions that blight Kent i.e you drive a car I think it’s time you come clean!
What might amaze you is that the piston aircraft engine is infact quite efficent in turning fuel into power – unless you drive an incredibly efficient car you might find that your campaigning produces more hydrocarbons per week than the average light
aircraft that might fly for one or two hours a day. Maybe you should aim your sights higher ? How about ‘Ban Cows’ ? Nice easy website for you? They produce large amounts of methane that contributes to global warming- they also turn lovely fields
into a muddy mess and continually hold people up in country lanes . They also have the one big advantage – they cannot answer back in the same way that the poor unfortunates
who have died in plane crashes cannot.
Now I will l spend the next few hours/days/weeks/years awaiting with baited breath your reply – maybe I will go out and complain about my neighbours use of cars/aeroplanes/boats and ownership of animals which have absolutely nothing to do with me but using your example should make my business to complain about!
By all means ‘cut and paste’ this and add to your website – indeed you can add
that I am a son of satan or any other slur – do as you wish – but please for the sake of the enviroment in Kent tell us all that don’t have a car or any other item that is polluting Kent in the same way as the nemisis of your life -light aircraft.

I wonder what it is I was supposed to reply to?
As a Mod I should pull this thread for breaching the ‘don’t dig up old threads’ rule. But I’ll let it stand and afford the guy the platform he so obviously doesn’t give to others on his own sad little site.

You’ll notice that the owner of this site does not have the courage of his convictions to have any easily accessible contact forum on his site. Typical of this sort of NIMBY.

A top weekend at Headcorn, the ‘noise’ provided by 2 Mustangs on Saturday and a Mk18 Spit on Sunday……
By: FL200 - 10th September 2004 at 18:16
very true, London TMA is directly above the field at 3500′ and upwards. But if they have clearance to fly above the airfield above that height then I’m sure they could easliy get clearance to ‘run-in’ to the airfield, drop the meat, then run-out.
Regards,
Jon.
By: Moggy C - 10th September 2004 at 18:12
Without looking at a chart I would guess the meat bomber radius of operation is heavily restricted by the various TMA and other airspace requirements around there.

I understand that everyone sees this as another NIMBY, and quite rightly so. BUT he doesn’t want the airfield shut, he would like to cut down the amount of parachuting, aeros, and heli flights.
Surely its not too much bother to do aeros somewhere else (I usually fly for 10 mins away from my airfield before practising displays), get parachute aircraft to fly South for 10mins then North for 10mins to be at jump height, thus minimizing time overhead, and organize alternate pleasure routes for heli flights.
When I have been pleasure flying at Duxford, the first flight is on a Northern route, second Eastern route, third Southern route, fourth Western route, then repeat. This effectively cuts the flights over villages by a quarter.
I realise that I could be shooting myself in the foot by sounding positive about this protest, but as long as its intentions are to keep the airfield open and just reduce the nuisance noise then I don’t see a problem.
HOWEVER!!! I do not agree with the comments on Mr Freeman, nor the posting of incorrect statements.
Jon.

My view remains that this sad (and slightly offensive) little website is best ignored rather than given any wider exposure.

What a cretinous argument and offensive website this man has. There’s been an airfield at Headcorn for years, and I hope that the sad attempts to close the place down fail miserably.
How sad that long-standing airfields are preyed upon by the NIMBYs with nothing better to fill their sad lives with.
By: paulmcmillan - 10th September 2004 at 13:07
The imporatnt thing is to ask….
How long have you lived in Headcorn??
The only people who can honestly complain is those who were there (if any) before the airfield was built
To all the others.. Didn’t you notice that you were next to an airfield when you bought your home? What do you expect??
I have the same beef with Heathrow expansion complainers.. I live in Berkshire (not far from Windsor).. I KNOW Heathrow was there I still made the choice to live there!..

I’m sure that the majority of people who read them don’t take in much of the detail, anyway.
I have read with interest the responses you have received on the ‘Aviation Forum’.
Yours sincerely,

Thanks for the reply ,

I hope it’s ok if I ask your IP to pull at least the offending pages – routing through an SK Server , thanks.
