A Cold Day at Duxford

Just a few photos from Tuesday. Finally the Hastings has made it into the hanger.

Im sure the Victor is going into a “conservation area” inside airspace, no idea about the Shack however.

I hope the Shack is going inside, it’s going to need one hell of a restoration job in any case.

Nice to see some of the bigger craft getting in out of the cold at last though.

I seem to remember being told that the Tug was originally used on an RN aircraft carrier as it had large concrete blocks slung underneath to weight it down. It was painted Blue when I used drive it though. Hope that gives the Tug spotters a bit more to go on?

Hi All –

nice pics ta for posting – think Rob’s right that Argus is the Sibson one, James…….owns it ….Terrence is a lot like Sammy (the Tug) but not quite, slightly different wheelbase and proportions….good spot though Mr Langham!

Cheers

Thank god she was starting to look a bit grotty, hopefully the shack and the victor are next as they are starting to fade badly.

Cheers, compared to the pic on this page http://www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk/museum.html i’d say it’s an up-engined version probably modified at Duxford for pulling larger aircraft about, can TT provide us with any more info on the Mercury bomb tractor?

The Fairchild Argus looks like the Sibson one (i’m 99.9% certain it is). What is the tractor towing the T33? Looks like a modernised version of the Mercury bomb tractor like the one at the Sywell museum

Is this any help in identifying ‘Terence the Tug’
