A couple of airfields

In the quest to re-equip myself with a bike I took a trip on Sunday out to Hucknall near Nottingham to look at a Ducati.

The weather on Sunday morning wasn’t special. with a robust wind from the west and some mucky overcast below 2,000 ft.

Finding the aircraft in some need of fuel I decided to drop in to Peterborough Conington on the way out. What a vastly improved field, with a smart, modern tower and excellent facilities. Fuel seemed to be just around the pound per litre mark, and no landing fees if your uplift is in excess of 40 litres.

Hucknall is a pair of grass strips from 730 yards upwards on the site of the Rolls Royce factory. Weekends only, really friendly welcome with a cup of tea included in your extortionate 😮 £3 landing fee 😉

If you are at a loose end, do drop in and see them.

Super met on the way back once I’d got above 3,000 feet (Mrs Moggy doesn’t do ‘lumpy skies’). Ground speed, which had been steady at 66 knots on the way out, was consistently 110 knots on the return leg. 😀

I wish. Failed my test twice, ‘cos I can’t seem to get the U-turn right. Pretty fed up as I have yet to meet a biker who has ever needed to do one or who has a bike that will actually get round in one go because of the turning circle. 😡

the trick is to look where you want to end up rather than at your front wheel… sounds weird but it works – bit like the helmet mounted sites
they have now days..!!

By all those cheesy grins I take the answer is affirmative. Either that or you’ve lost your marbles(again) mind you buying a Duke could also indicate lost marbles 😀

The old, file the sliders trick, but the tyres will tell the true story, especially the front tyre.

You don’t catch me out that easily.

The angle grinder is on stand-by 😉

What model have you bought?

It’s amazing how many flyers are bikers as well, and do aerobatics, motorcycling in 3D.

Blag a passenger ride in something swift and well flown on a lovely day to Le Touquet. Take her around the most expensive dress shops and buy her something nice. Off to a great restaurant for superb food and drink, back that evening.

“Darling, if only I could fly, that’s what we’d be able to do every weekend”

Works every time 😉

Ha chaps I’ve just realized were i’m going wrong, this coming weekend i’m off to Nottingham for a concert, weekend after Oxford for another. Weekend after that Birmingham (Saturday), Manchester (Sunday) and all from here in sunny North Wales.

Now-if I learnt to fly and bought an aircraft life would be so much enjoyable as I hate driving.

dont do it, it’ll only cost you money 😮

Sunday up here was decidely marginal. I had a couple of trial lessons booked, but awoke to the clag down below 1000ft and quite a gusty westerly. 🙁 ho hum, so hopefully the weather will be better next Saturday.

Why not try some of the free airfields such as Hinton in the Hedges?

Perhaps because I don’t know anybody selling a Ducati there?

But you are right, I should have done it and saved myself the three quid.
