A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS…..

First of all, does anyone know what happend to the Greek AF’s proposed purchase of an additional 70 F-16C/D Block 50+ fighters? I have seen a few listings of the proposed deal, but nothing confirming it. In the AFM’s from December 1999 and January 2000, they mention such a deal, stating that total cost would reach 3.1 billion. Does anyone know anything on this?

And another question about the Hellenic AF. In 1998, it was reported that Greece purchased 20 ex-USAF F-16 Block 30’s to fulfil the nuclear strike role for Greece’s NATO nukes at Axios airbase. Even the Lockheed Martin site claims that the sale went ahead but I cannot find anything else on this other than that and a couple more listings stating the same thing. As far as I can see, Greece only has about 80 F-16’s in it’s inventory right now. 40 ordered under Peace Xenia 1 program in 1987, and another 40 under Peace Xenia 2 in 1993. If they did order 20 ex-USAF examples, then Greece’s inventory would be 100. Anyone know anything?
