A Day At MAN 27/6/06

Hi All,

Today myself and Steve (EGNM) had a wander over to MAN. It turned into a bit of an airport tour taking in the south side, level 13 car park, AVP and the Airport pub (for a ritual beer or three:) ). Today was my first visit to the south side, and I have to say for anyone who photographs or simply observes aircraft, it’s an amazing spot.

The weather was as is to be expected at MAN… Dull! It was still an enjoyable day though, and the highlight for me was the PIA 747 landing while we were at the pub. The 747 has to be one of the world’s most stunning machines to observe.

Anyway… Enjoy!

Nice shots there Paul – It’s funny how there is always a good chance of finding you in a pub near an airport eh? 😀 !!

So when we next meeting up for a drinking… AHEM… Err… Photography session then Chris?! 😀

To the south side head towards the AVP, but instead of turning off towards the romper pub keep heading straight on towards Macclesfield.

You will go under the tunnels which the runways run over. Here you will hit a roundabout. Take the first exit which runs to one of the security gates, but there is a lane on your right you can park on.

Walk back to the roundabout and cross over the road you have drove along. On the opposite side you will see a hill which is a marked footpath and has steps running up it. Follow these around the back of the fire station, down another valley which has the River running under the runway via a tunnel, and back up the otherside (all marked). From here you can walk along the footpath which is above the runway elevation. Walking time is 10-15 mins.

Hope its of use!

Hi There
Brilliant pictures
Couple of questions
How do u get to the South Side viewing area? and what camara did u use as I am looking to purchase a new camara for such use

Thanksin advance

Paul

Hi Paul,

Thanks for your comments!

I honestly can’t explain how to get to the south side as Steve was driving and I’ve never been there before! Gray Area (Lance) is a MAN local, and I’m sure he could give you much more info than I’m able to!

As far as the camera is concerned, I’m using a Canon EOS 350D with the standard EF 18-55 kit lens and the EF 75-300 F4-5.6 USM, at least until my nice big new Sigma lens arrives tomorrow. 😀

Hope that helps,
Paul

But Paul my good friend, I don’t pretend I’m a Photographer whilst you and Benny were talking about Resizing, Cropping, Sigma’s and Canon’s I mearly thought you were talking about restructuring the church or something! :dev2:

I thought once I’d “cropped, resized and altered the levels” I’d have had a darn good nose shot, well at least I thought that was what you lot did when you missed the back end off!!! :diablo:

Anyway, where’s my invite for Friday? Lost in the post? 😮 😉

Anyway, just to make you feel better Steve, after you failed spectacularly to keep the entire aircraft in the frame when you were pratting with my camera, here’s the last shot I took today. It was, of course, my full intention to get a dull, out of focus and utterly useless shot of the back end of this bmi Airbus.

No worries Paul, ta for the company – although not best chuffed I’ve only just got around to having my tea! Grrr… :diablo:

Like this pics – shame you deleated my effort – much better than that SN Brussles with the blurred green bits in the way!

Ha! I quite like those blurred green bits!

I call it ‘Alcohol, Planes and Camera’s Don’t Mix’.

I wasn’t actually that drunk… Honest…

Thanks for your comments guys!
