A Few From A Snowy ZRH 27-1-07

Hi All,

I managed to get up to the excellent viewing deck at ZRH yesterday before flying back to LBA via AMS. I didn’t stay up there too long though. It was absolutely packed and in all honesty, I ended up getting a little sick and tired of trying to stand back out of the way of other photographers only to have some ignorant fool stand in front of me, completely blocking my view when I was trying to make sure I didn’t get in anyone elses. I wonder what the point is of trying to be nice sometimes.

Anyway, I hope you like the 6 I have here, and ZRH will certainly be an airport I visit again for a photography trip.

Adam, how did you know it was a Sony Ericsson?! Been checking out the EXIF data?

Paul

Teehee. The browser I use has an inbuilt EXIF reader so it’s pretty kool. Use an SE w800i myself, excellent handset, takes some good shots and is well handy when you don’t have a cam with ya!

The tour, is not to be missed,
In 2003 they ran the tours on a Wednesday, Saturday and a Sunday we managed to get a private tour on the Thursday( along with 15 school children) after talking nicely to the tour Guide , Half way through they take you to the intersection and you are allowed of the bus (Possibly the best viewing area in the world)for about 30mins , I’m not saying it’s close to the runway but a Swiss MD11 took off for Mexico and the wing tip went over us and yes it was airborne what a sight 😮 😮 😮

Great shots Paul, the Thai 346 is a belter! What lens length is needed for that kind of shot?

Thanks!

I was at 220mm for that shot (on a 1.6 FoV camera), although there was a reasonable amount of cropping done!

By the way, I forgot to mention the last photo, the El Al 737, was actually taken with my mobile phone and edited the usual way in CS2! 😀

Excellent shot for a phone. Seems Sony Erricson got the marketing right with that model then!

Thanks guys!

Kevin, I’m guessing I was on the same observation deck you were. I just followed the signs to it. It did look quite new, so it must be the same one!

Tom… I could see the buses on the tour they run pulling up RIGHT beside the runway. It’s something I have to do in the very near future!!

Thanks again for your comments all!

Hi Paul
Did you manage to get up on the new terminal viewing platform,
They had just completed it when I was in 2003

Hi Paul, great photos and thanks for yesterday’s weather forecast as I will be there tomorrow enroute to Mallorca. The 737, N889NC belongs to Well Fargo Bank, so probably picking up some money to support the $!:D

Actually, Wells Fargo is a large leasing bank. So while the plane may technically be theirs alright, it is probably not operated by/for them.

Thanks for your comments guys. Much appreciated!

Phil, I thought ZRH was absolutely fine. Quick, regular and efficient trains between various bits of the airport, friendly staff, an excellent viewing deck, etc. I’ll be going back there again!

I just found another shot actually. Something we don’t see all that often at LBA. Well… OK, something we NEVER see at LBA!
