A few from Lanzarote (European SXM!)

As some of you may know, I have spent the last week in what some may say is the European equivalent to SXM. This was my 8th time in Lanzarote, and I still love it just as much. I was with my mate, and unfortunately he doesn’t even seem to find an Air Pullmantar 747-200 screaming over his head at low altitude in the slightest interesting (yes this happened yesterday, and I was very lucky and surprised to see it. I’ve never even seen a photo of a 747 in ACE before, let alone be there to see it myself!).

I would do a trip report, but I think that the sub-forum has been a bit of a let down and I’d be wasting a lot of time to only get a few people looking at it. Instead I thought I’d put some pictures up from this amazing airport, and also a couple of wingview shots which I took on my way out.

I flew on MyTravel from Stansted, A320 G-DHJZ (full livery! 😀 ) both ways. Nothing to complain about, and only an hour delay each way due to ATC industrial action in ACE. Landed at STN at 4am this morning, and so there are no shots from the return flight as it was right through the night.

If I had it my way, I could have quite happily spent most of the week down on the shores of the approach at ACE. However, due to other social commitments I was only able to spend a couple of hours on Sunday, then a few hours before I left yesterday. Thursday is by far the busiest day, the British day, and in the time I was there I logged 16 FCA’s, 10 TCX’s, 6 MON’s, 8 MYT’s and many others, such as Excel, Dutchbird, Air Europa, Spanair, Volar, Futura and of course, Binter Canarias.

To start with a few photos, here are some (in order) departing from STN last week. Firstly is just rolling at Stansted, with the FLS hangar. After lif off there are several views of the quiet aprons (was too early to catch the early evening rush 🙁 ) After that we see the surrounding Essex countryside, nothing interesting especially when you live here! Then you can see some of the cloud formations that I’m quite glad we missed.

I would be very interested in your Belfast shots 🙂

EC-ISY is operated as Britannia says, by Hola Airlines, leased from CityBank.

Great photos; I’ve been there twice. One of the best airports for photos imo. On my first trip in Nov 96; I saw 3 x Premiair DC10s and 5 x Condor B757s on the ramp at the same time..

Thanks very much Steve and AO, much appreciated. I do have a selection of shots from my trip to Belfast the week before, including some out-of-window stuff. Anyone interested, and then I may do another thread?

Thanks very much everyone, it could indeed look like SXM. Not quite so tropical, but it’s definitely hot enough and the beaches are awesome! Cant wait to get a decent camera and go back, the results could be amazing.

Excellent pictures Dan… looks like you had a great time. Love that Iberia MD-80 shot with the volcano backdrop – class picture! 🙂

I think I have to go there again. I was there before I became interested in commercial aviation spotting.

With the right lense it could look a lot like SXM.

Brill photos mate! I’m really looking forward to going there now! It’s also my eighth time too, I’ll be able to bring back some photos too as I’ve got a new digital camera! But like everyone else has said, superb photos!

Yet more brilliant shots.

Especially like the FCA 757 (;) ) and the Monarch A300, and the FUA,JKK and MYT shots from the terminal are also great.

Great work 🙂
