A few Jeddah Pictures

I have had these pictures so long I should post them in the History section LOL
1. Part of the Haj Terminal from the foreign airlines car park
2. My trusty steed home
3. The Foreign Airlines terminal and the Haj terminal. The airport covers 85
square miles and to give you an idea of the size of the Haj terminal, it
covers 378 acres into which the whole of the old Edinburgh (Turnhouse)
airport could almost fit in area (381 acres).
4. The Thy flight from Istanbul. Both Saudia and Thy flights are generally fully
booked on average 8/10 weeks in advance in both directions.
5. Goodbye to Saudi – Red Sea in the background.
6. There is an Egyptian pyramid somewhere in this picture!!?
7. One of the saddest sights is to see an old codger who has had too much
to drink and thinks he is an irresistible stewardess magnet. Let us pray
for him. :diablo: :p

Nice to see pics from there, as its somewhere that is nigh on impossible to get shots from.

The only direct flights to Saudi are operated by Sauid Arabian airlines, bmi are supposed to be starting a new LHR service soon though.

Wow that is a low load of pax. Are there still any direct flights from the UK to Saudi?

I think BA are still flying to Dhahran although I am not sure. The low passenger numbers are reflected in the number of British passport holders in Saudi Arabia. There were 30,000 when I arrived in June 1998 and now I believe there are less than 4,500 and most of those work on secure sites for Bae and Aramco.

Yes, it was a 777 which was a great aircraft. I remember flying back once and they used a B767 which cheesed me off as it did not have the video screens in the back of the seats. As LFC24 said BA have now discontinued the service not just due to the terrorist threat but also due to falling passenger numbers. I flew back just before the start of the Iraq war on a 777 and there was a total of 17 passengers including myself.
