What’s that fuselage in the shot with the Me262 and Mitchell?? It looks like an ex-Tora! Tora! Tora! Zero to me. :confused:

This was my first visit to Chino and I had flown in with Gordon Plaskett, principally to see the Mk XIX Spitfire and so hello again to Ed Maloney.

I photographed everything in sight but the physical dimensions of the lots and who owned what was lost on me, a Brit.

As these shots have generated some interest I will scan the remaining negs from that day, where there will I am sure be more clues, and perhaps the knowledgeable can elucidate on identities and ownership.

Yep I’m wrong just found the photo in your book, question is that the POF silver 25 if so is that one of the Bagdad Seafurys laying behind it.

Also in photo 3 is that the Val behind the Corsair that is on displat at March.

Well, Rob, I’ll have to beg to differ about the B-17, as I took photos of that B-17F at about the same time and it was on the Planes of Fame lot. I used one of the photos in Final Cut to illustrate the section on 42-3374 (page 70, revised edition). Tallichet didn’t get his current G (N3703G) until 1986 and the one he had on loan from the Air Force Museum (N47780) was silver while in the YAF collection.

An interesting series of photos, and a good example of what could be seen at Chino in the 1970s.

I think you might find this is David stuff the 17 is a G model look at the glass positions they are a Douglas type.

As for the Corsair its either Davids or Yank Air Museum POF nevr had a dash 4

Yanks is F4U-4B Bu#97390 this might be it I know that Yank kept alot of stuff in Davids area.

Agreed, very much a dash 4 Corsair…and the paint scheme of the other Corsair, All blue with no discernable markings except the stars and bars definitely makes it look like a Black Sheep TV vet, probably just retired from the series at this point…

Great stuff….I have some similar stuff from 2 years ago out there, I should dig it out…

Actually, the corsair in the first picture is an F4U-4, not an FG… note large cowl flaps, chin scoop, and upper access panels. Not sure which Bu.No. though.

At least the first shot is of the Planes of Fame lot. The B-17 is B-17F s/n 42-3374 that was traded to the USAF Museum for display first at Beale AFB and now at Offutt AFB as a gate guard. It came from the MGM movie studio and did have B-17E nose glass that was eventually traded to the NASM for use on their B-17D. If my memory serves me, the B-17G nose glass that went on the B-17F when it was at Beale was the actual one off the “Swoose.” I think it was eventually replaced by one in better condition.

In the second photo showing the Dauntless from the left hand side there is a B-25 in the background. This plane looks silver with a cartoon on the tail. Any idea which one it is?
