[updated:LAST EDITED ON 01-03-02 AT 01:25 PM (GMT)]Have just seen the flying programme for the first Shuttleworth evening display on 18 May where one of the items is the DH88 Comet – a thoroughbred racer if ever there was one. I’ve never seen it fly, only taxy, so this will be not to miss. Fingers crossed for the weather, the last time we flew in to an evening display, we got there just before the thunderstorm!
Later displays will feature the Bristol Boxkite, which is back in the air again this season – a true bimbler in the best sense of the word.

RE: A gentle bimbler and a thoroughbred racer
Yeah, I knew a cadet at school who found going round Conningsby boring, and hated flying a Chipmonk and Bulldog over Leicstershire! To think the ATC refused to have me…

RE: A gentle bimbler and a thoroughbred racer
I was fortunate enough to see (and photograph) the Comet and BAe’s Mosquito in formation together at Shuttleworth back in the 80’s. The two of them used to fly together quite a lot back then. I’ll try to dig out one of my photo’s and post it on here.
My old ATC unit used to do the car park marshalling there, so I was there about half a dozen times each year, and after a while I think I became a little complacent about them… Funny how you never appreciate these things until they’re no longer with us. 🙁
