The international exposure of Marlborough wines received a lift yesterday with Air New Zealand’s decision to dump Australian wine off its menu.
The airline pours 900,000 bottles of wine a year – equivalent to 12 loads of cargo in a 747 plane – and 52 per cent of those servings come from Marlborough.
Speaking in Blenheim yesterday, chief executive Ralph Norris said the quality of New Zealand wine justified the move to only serve Kiwi wine on the national carrier.
He said Australian wines would be removed from Air New Zealand flights in the middle of the year.
