One of the companies that funded the series was an Aussie network, so the scriptwriter adapted the character to please the men with the money.

Interesting to see that it was actually a Canadian who played Fanny Barton, though he’d lived in Aussie for a bit so had the accent down perfect.

Pity they hadn’t kept a Kiwi in it though. Great series, I am halfway through watching it (first time in 14 years!) and loving it. The critics were soooo wrong about it.

In the book Fanny Barton was a New Zealander…in the series..an Aussi ?
