A lot of unknown parts from crash site(2006)

Hi all,

here I have a lot of unknown parts from a Wellington (Z1292) crash site near Kiel.

On Interest are especial the part with “CONTRACT 18885, NOV 1939”.
The material is plumb…

May be someone can help to identify the following parts too!?

One part from crash site (not with a picture) is a hose clip. The clip have the stemp: “IDEAL – MADE IN USA” . I am confused about this stemp.
This is the first part I have found on a british crash site with a part was build in the USA… Was it a standart practice to use parts from the USA in british bomber ??

Thanks and regards from Kiel, Germany

I believe one of the crew of this aircraft was a distant relative (cousin) of mine! Andy Saunders

Item #3 in your third photo is a Type B Electro-Magnetic Fuzing Unit, 5D/606, as fitted to Universal Bomb Carriers.

The item marked #6 RotaxH… looks like it could be a small warning lamp. Rotax made a range of these, all starting with an “H” prefix.

Item No.2 is to indicate the amount of roll and it mounted for (IIRC) the bomb aimer’s reference, I have found one and been given another from british aircraft.

Item no.3 from the last image is a small switch from the top of a bomb rack, I’ll see if I can find a photo of a complete one.

I have seen a complete example of item No.1, though I haven;t got a photo of it.

Hi all !

Thanks for the qualified reply of my questions ! You are great 🙂

Today I have completed my research on the crash site. In the next days I will publish the results and send here a notice about this.

Today I have found also some new, for me unknown, parts. Maybe you can help again to identify ?

#1

Sadly this plate is not complete, but very interesting.
On the top is typed: “WELLINGTON, IMPORTANT POINTS ON BOMB GEAR”

#2
Item with a scale on both sites. Made of brass.

#3
Complete plate “STBD OVERLOAD TANK GAUGE” with some single letter.

#3 (the second…)
Box with electrical parts. “BIRMAL, DRG No. L490901-A”

#4
Handweel with a scale (100-240) and “PUSH TO TURN”

#5
Both parts of belt lock ?

#6
Electrical item with four little screws and “ROTAXH…”

Thanks again for your help!

The last item in the lower pic on the right is one of the mountings for the Astrograph used by the navigator.

The item top left hand corner, probably stamped GUNFIRE and with an AM Crown, is part of the oxygen hose connector from a “D” Type RAF oxygen mask. This is the union between the pilots hose (end) and the oxygen socket in the aeroplane. I have several, but not from crash sites although crews would usually leave these behind when they baled out so it does not indicate the crew went down with the aircraft. Don’t be confused by the word gunfire….it has nothing to do with the firing of guns! It is the makers name. Andy Saunders

Photographs 2 and 3 are parts of a Mk. IX Bomb Sight.

These scales were fitted to match the bomb load and it’s ballistics. Hence Z1292 would appear to have beeen carrying 500 lb. G.P. bombs on it’s last flight.

Why not ask them?

Their website proudly proclaims a 90-year history, they may still have records.

It could be from a belt lock, the different sizes certainly suggest that.

Thanks Alan,

do you know the function of the seat strap item ?
I wonder that the both items have a different size, there are from the same crash site. This is not a part from the belt lock, right ?

The item marked 28559/43 is from a seat strap. I have found dozens of them over the last few years.

I have also seen an item similar to the one marked with altitudes, though it wasn’t the same.
