Hey AdlerTag,

No problem. I actually first started my training at Truro in a C152 (G-TFSA) The airfield is great fun and indeed a challenge, especially in anything bigger than a C152 as take off uphill becomes…fun 😉 I did circuits in a C172 there once and the fence at the end got abit close for comfort a few times. 😀

Perranporth really is a beautiful airfield to fly into and out of if ever you get the chance. It truely is a beautiful area. Truro airfield and Perranporth are about 3nm apart.

It really is sad that most former WW2 airfields only use 1 runway, or as you say in Breightons case, the peri-track!!

Cranfield has 2 runways. Runway 18/36 can be used on request but the main runway is 03/21

Thanks for the info, Truro looks scenic but challenging- not alot of runway and on a hump to boot! Nice to hear Perranporth has all three runways too, as you probably already know, so many old WW2 airfields that are still in use only have one or two runways still operational, and ofcourse somewhere like Breighton uses only a section of the old peri-track.

Nigelrob,
Ahh I see 🙂 I live in Beanhill, which im sure you know isnt far from stadium MK. I hope you enjoyed your cornish pasty!!! Although I sometimes go to ASDA (Or ASBO which seems more appropriate) I get so frustrated in there as it gets too busy!

widmeister,
Correct 🙂 The St Ives shot was taken in September 2005 and was on a flight in G-BGIU enroute from lands end st just back to Perranporth 🙂

AdlerTag,
The other airfields are Truro (Grass runway) and RNAS Culdrose. Both are in Cornwall.
Along with Culdrose I believe Perranporth has 3 operational runways, although only 2 of them are licenced for training, the other can be used if necessary by licenced pilots.

The”Eh”Team,
Thanks 🙂 I deliberately did my best to get a few shots of Cambridge because I knew they had things like Hercules there and what better way to be nosey than to get a few shots from the air? 🙂
The blue hangar door is Patriot Aviations hangar (when this shot was taken) However they moved all their ops from Cranfield to Coventry a few months ago.
The XS458 lightning shot was taken during an engine test run a few months ago 🙂

Nice interesting set and always good to get a birds eye view of a site like Marshall’s.The lightning still looks good to go and R22 next to the blue hangar door is a good shot..cheers..:)

What are the other airfields in your overhead shots, aside from Cardington and Cambridge? Interesting to see a wartime airfield with all three runways still operational…

Hey guys,

Many thanks for the comments! 🙂 The 2 aerial shots are indeed Cambridge! 🙂 Most of the aeroplane/heli shots were taken at Cranfield with the exception of G-BBND Chipmunk, G-BMLT, G-FARL (All taken at Little Gransden) The Wizzair was at Luton and G-BNSU was at Bourn after we landed there for a short break. 🙂

The coastal shots are all taken in Cornwall. I obtained my PPL there back in 2007. 🙂

Nigelrob, Many thanks!! My house is just behind the wing 😀 I take it you’re familiar with the Milton keynes area? 🙂

Very nice shots. Were some of those Cranfield and Cambridge? The coastal venue looks very pretty.
