I picked this part up at the recent Speke Air Fair.
I ummed and ahed for a while and walked away from it several times before deciding to part with my cash.
The label attached to it says:-
“WW2 DE HAVILLAND BIV FIGHTER BOMBER INSTRUMENT (COCKPIT – PILOT) MOUNTING. (SITED LEFT OF PILOT NEXT TO THROTTLE QUADRANT)”
By coincidence, I have some pretty good cockpit photos of the BIV (Bomber, not Fighter Bomber, of course) but they do not show this casting, and in any case, it doesn’t really scream instrument mounting at me.
However, the part is marked “Mosquito BIV only” in what appears to be original ink (i.e. not a recent addition).
There are lots of numbers on the casting, but none of them clear enough to quote with 100% certainty. My best shot is:-
64CE 651ND ISS2 RM(?) 6(?)5550
6(?)-4CB651 31
Plus what you see on the close up.
None of which appear to start with 98…… unfortunately!
So, there is the challenge! Can anyone pick up a clue from the detail? Mosquito or some’at else from the deH empire perhaps?
As always, thanks in advance for any help.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad, it could also be Nimrod, which is possibly more likely at present.
I hope you didnt pay a lot for it.

I be a con…….?
I know that it’s easy to be wise after the event, but looking at the third, smaller image and noting that it has painted on it ‘[a] CON I B’, I would have thought that the maxim caveat emptor would readily have come to mind!!!

Don’t believe anything they put on labels, it’s just a best (poor) guess.
I’ve had a WW2 flare canister reputedly from a Phantom and all sorts of bits marked Spitfire when they patently weren’t.
I don’t think it’s an act of deviousness on their part, they just want to sell the stuff and have no idea what they’ve got. I suspect they have a resident “expert” who dispenses the duff gen and nobody knows any better.
Anon.

Let’s see…Avro Heritage Group stall at the Fair…Woodford…Comet 4.
Nope, can’t see any possible connection there, can you?
Roll on next year’s Fair, I’ll be wanting me money back! 😀

Comet Mk 4.
6 – DH106
4 – Mk 4 Comet
CE – Cockpit equipment (I think!)
No idea why it would state Mosquito on it!!
