A Multi-Billion Dollar Question

Now that its been said, the requirement for M-MRCA is twin engined, the M2k-5/9, F-16, Jas-39 etc are out, and what remains are the MiG-29, Rafale & Eurofighter. So here are three contestants to choose from, and ONLY ONE is gonna be the BEST buy ……

MiG-29M/M2
External Load – 6,500 Kg
Internal Fuel Load – 5,500 Kg
Power plant –
Thrust

unit cost = $36 million
125 units = $4.5 billion

Rafale
External Load – 9,500 Kg
Internal Fuel Load – 4,500 Kg
Power plant – 2 x Snecma M88-3 turbofans
Thrust
– 2 x 60 kN max dry thrust,
– 2 x 90 kN with reheat

Unit cost = $67.79 million
125 units = $ 8.5 billion

EF-2000
External Load – 6,500 Kg
Internal Fuel Load – 4,000 Kg
Power plant – 2 x Eurojet EJ200 turbofans
Thrust
– 2 x 60 kN max dry thrust,
– 2 x 90 kN with reheat

Unit cost = $92.5 million
125 units = $11.6 billion

The recent report abt India going to spend $9 Billion for the M-MRCA requirement from the world media will throw light that the international media has been throwing its weight behind the Rafales for the IAF’s requirement against the MiG-29 MRCA, which can be seen from the fact that the cost for 125 Rafales match up their speculated amount of $9billion for the deal. An amount which caught many Indian’s by surprise.

Also to take note is the report abt the new engines for MiG-29K for IN, so maybe it cud be the same one on the MiG-29M/M2 for IAF, well not sure though, but what i am searching for is, if this will have super-cruising mode.

RD-333 producing 136kN thrust

The Indian Navyโ€™s 12 RAC-MIG-built MiG-29Ks, meanwhile, will have an avionics suite similar to that on the Su-30MKI. Each aircraft will be equipped with an all-glass cockpit; digital fly-by-wire flight control system; DRDO-developed mission computer, HOTAS controls for the pilot; the N011M โ€˜Barsโ€™ (panther) passive phased-array radar built by the Tikhomirov Scientific Research Institute of Instrument Building and incorporating two HAL-built radar display processors; and twin Klimov RD-333 turbofans producing 136kN thrust with afterburning, incorporating digital electronic engine controls, and having a design life of 2,000 hours.
