Just imagine it: Airbus teams up with Lockheed Martin or Boeing on a program to build a NATO fighter.
Detached from reality?
Not, apparently, to Domingo Ureña Raso, Airbus Defence and Space executive vice president for military aircraft.

Of course any joint US+European progamme would be decades away but next time round (if there is ever going to be another fighter progam) it would make sense to me. By joint program I mean an aircraft designed with the requirements of all partners in mind, rather than partners deciding whether or not an aircraft designed to meet US requirements would meet theirs, too. eg an aircraft designed to be refuelled by NATO tankers, not just US, no BS about the US keeping software code to itself etc
